Velociraptor Antirrophus "Nublarensis"

Height: 6 feet
Weight: 274 pounds
Length: 16.7 feet
---------------
Coloration:
Male: Vibrant orange with long, black striping on the back, neck and tail. Eye's are amber yellow with black, slitted pupils. Underbelly is yellowish white. Old individuals have 12 black stripes on both legs, but is common mainly in old individuals.
Young Male: Light orange with small, black stripes on the tail, neck and back. Eye's are like the adult male, but are lighter in color, and the underbelly is beigish white.
---------------
Female: Dark brown with darker brown striping on the neck, back and tail. Eye's are usually dark yellow with slitted pupils, and the underbelly is beigish brown. Old females have blackish brown striping, a noticable sign of the individual being very old.
Young Female: Overall a duller version of the adult female. Stripes on the body are much lighter, the underbelly is beigish white, and the eye's are light yellow.

Preferred Habitat: Nublarensis raptors live in a variety of places, such as Redwood Forest's, Jungles and Delta's. Some packs have even taken residence in what's left of human area's that were abandoned by inGen, like the old Embryonic's Administration and the Worker's Village.
Diet: When alone, an adult Nublarensis raptor can take down dinosaurs the size of Gallimimus. When in a pack, however, a pack of Velociraptors can take down large hadrosaurs like Parasaurolophus. Young raptors will sometimes raid dinosaur nests for eggs and hatchlings, while other hunt small lizards, mammals and birds.
Family: Dromaeosauridae
Social Structure: Nublarensis raptors often live and travel in packs with up to 7 individuals led by a dominant male, female or alpha pair.
Description: Medium-sized, bipedal dromaeosaurid. Has long, muscular forearms with 3 fingers on each hand tipped with sharp, curving claws used for grappling onto the sides of victims. Long, balanced tail with stiff, rod-like bones near the end of the tail. Short, robust skull filled with tens of curving, self-sharpening teeth. Primary weapon and feature of Velociraptor are the two, 5-inch long sickle-claws on both feet. These are normally held above ground, but when in action, these act like hot butter knifes, slicing through the tough skin if their victims.
Behavior: Velociraptor are possibly the most aggresive, deadly and ferocious small carnivore on Isla Sorna, and are among the smartest of the dinosaur population on Isla Sorna. During a pack hunt, the members slowly, patiently and carefully stalk their prey, hiding amongst the shadows and surroundings. Simular tot he attack fasion of Compsognathus, the alpha animal will then show itself to the prey, which should distract it. When the time is right, the rest of the pack will emerge from their hiding spots, and leap onto the sides of their prey. Slashing at tearing at the belly and neck of their prey, they will use their sickle-claws on the feet, their claws on their hands and their teeth to tear in and slash at their victims, most likley spilling out the intestines of their prey, killing it instantly. Unlike their relative, Troodon Pectinodon, Velociraptors tend to use the six inch, retractable claws on their feet to subsue their prey. When not in use, these killing claws are held high above the ground, to avoid bluntening or even breaking the claws. During a kill, however, these claws act like steak knifes; searing though the thick skin of their victim, making a gaping hole in the side, causing the intestines to spill out on the ground, killing it instantly. The claws on teh hands are simply used to grasping onto the sides of large hadrosaurs like Corythosaurus and Parasaurolophus, while the sickle-claws do all the dirty work. Nublarensis raptors are incredibly fast runners and sprinters; their strong and powerful hind-legs give them the ability to reach speeds of up to eighty miles per hour; faster than an African cheetah, and certainly fast enough to run down the large hadrosaurs and ceratopsians of the grasslands. Along with incredibly fast speed, their powerful hind-legs are able to give out powerful kickjs, fast enough to last out at victims at a powerful speed, slashing with the toe claw on the foot, tearing at the belly. The population of Nublarensis raptors are more nocturnal then their relaties; Velciraptor Sornaensis. Often going for hunts at night, they hide in the darkness, using their large eyes to scan the horizon, and spot prey when they cant spot them. Regardless, both subspecies of Velociraptor have an incredibly high intelligence; roughly as smart as a modern chimpanzee, able to open doors, plan out simple or compex hunting strategies, and figure out simple problems like testing electrical fences for weaknesses systematically that other dinosaurs couldnt solve. Along with their Sornaensis relatives, Velociraptor Nublarensis are know to both kill for sport and also to kill for a trophy, simular to how a big game hunter kills an African elephant and keep it's tusks as a trophy. After doing so, the raptor will then tear apart the corpse, often tkaing what bones it wants, and leaving the rest for scavengers. Velociraptors take great delight in taking down their prey; some will even take their sweet time slowly digging their sickle-claws into their prey, causing masive pain on the victim. It has been documented that in extreme times, Velociraptor Nublarensis will turn cannibalistic, eating their young and other adults for food in desperate times, simular to Coelphysis Bauri, which is known in the fossil record to eat their young in droughts. Eggs and young Velociraptors are cared for very well; the adults will often send males out to collect food for the chicks, while the females act as guard for the unhatched eggs and young. Eggs are lain in a small burrow, and both parents create nest mounds out of dirt, mud, feces, rock and twigs to make a sturdy foundation for the young to stay in. The young are often fed regurgitated meat from the adults, and as they grow, they start to prey on lizards, mammals, dinosaur eggs and hatchlings and birds. Velociraptors are by far the most vocal of Isla Sorna's population of dinosaurs, communicating with over 2,500 types of chirps, barks, screeches, squeals, screams, hisses, growls and 'roars'.
Additional Information: Both sub-species of Velociraptor with the exception of Velociraptor Mongoliensis are all enginnered down from the DNA of Deinonychus. The Nublarensis raptors were created by InGEN after the creation of the Sornaensis raptors to be displayed in Jurassic Park: Isla Nublar. Unfortunately for InGEN, the power was shut off all across the island, letting the population of Nublarensi raptors led by an alpha female called the Big One and cause havoc and chaos on the survivors. The several other individuals were simply released onto Isla Sorna after the Jurassic Park project was abandoned. The Nublarensis raptors were observed to be far more aggresive and lethal than the Sornaensis raptors, even towards their own kind. The Big One was to have supposedly killed five of the original eight of the population, for reasons unkown.
Maximum Age: The oldest a Velociraptor Nublarensis adult can reach is 29.7 years.
