Velociraptor Antirrophus "Sornaensis"

Height: 5.7 feet
Weight: 211 pounds
Length: 15.4 feet
Male: Gray bodies with a creamy brown underbelly, brownish red backs and a light blue stripe running along each side of the body. The prominent ridges on the snouts of dominant males are red and are used for display. The backs of males' heads are lined with dark gray or black with white striped quills. The eyes are red and some have very slight mixes of yellow, orange, or both.
Young Male: Same as the adult male, but without the stripes and quills. In repacement of the quills are small little stubs, but are common as the young male grows. Unlike the adult male, these stubs have no ability to move around; that feature comes as the young male grows.
Female: Creamy white with black blotches and stripes covering almost all of the body. Eye's are dark yellow with small, black pupils. Around both eye's is a small 'layer' of red surrounding the eye.
Young Female: Pale white body with small brown blotches and stripes.

Preferred Habitat: Sornaensis raptors live in a variety of places, like Delta's and Jungles. Some packs have even taken up residence in forgotten inGen sites, like the abandoned Security Compound or area's near where Ian Malcom's trailers and high hide were.
Diet: When alone, the largest dinosaur an adult Sornaensis raptor can kill is a Hypsilophodon or Leallynasaura. When in packs, however, their sheer intelligence, power and speed gives them the ability to take down hadrosaurs like Maiasaura and Corythosaurus.
Family: Dromaeosauridae
Social Structure: Sornaensis raptors generally travel and live in a breeding/hunting packs with up to even 9 individuals. These packs consist of young, adult females, and sometimes adolescent males, but this is rare, as they are often banished from the pack when they are old enough to start their own pack. Packs are led by a dominant male, female or alpha pair.
Description: Medium-sized, bipedal dromaeosaurid. Has long, muscular forearms with 3 fingers on each hand tipped with sharp, curving claws used for grappling onto the sides of victims. Long, balanced tail with stiff, rod-like bones near the end of the tail. Short, robust skull filled with tens of curving, self-sharpening teeth. The primary weapon and feature of Velociraptor are the two, 5-inch long sickle-claws on both feet. These are normally held above ground, but when in action, these act like hot butter knifes, slicing through the tough skin if their victims. Males have a set of sturdy quills on the back of their heads, near the top neck region. These are used for display to females and for emotional display.
Behavior: After the Nublarensis subspecies, Velociraptor Sornaensis are quite possibly the second most aggresive, intelligent, and dangerous land dinosaur on Isla Sorna, using their intense intelligence and abiity to work in effective groups to take down large game. During a hunt, the beta alpha will direct the pack while the alpha goes ahead of the pack to monitor and find suitable prey. After a suitable animal, like a hadrosaur, has been located, the alpha will alert the pack and they will slowly circle around the animal in secret. After a while, the alpha will show himself, distracting the prey while the rest of the pack starts the attack. During an attack, the Sornaensis raptors will cling onto the sides of large prey with their arms, while they bite into the skin and use mainly their sickle claws on the foot like steak knifes, digging deep into the sides of their prey, spilling intestines and killing the animal in a pool of blood. A Velociraptors sickle claws are used in addition with their hand claws and teeth. This will inflict terrible and ghastly wounds into the side of their victim, often spilling guts out on the ground. Like their Nublarensis brothers, Velociraptor Sornaensis have powerful hind legs with strong muscles, enabling them to reach top speeds at over 75 MPH, faster than a modern cheetah. They can also send out powerful kicks, slashing at their victim. But unlike the Nublarensis raptors, Sornaensis raptors tend to not use their hind legs for jumping great heights, commonly doing so for jumping onto the sides of large prey or attackers. Velociraptor Sornaensis care extremely well for their young; the eggs are laid in a carefully made nest surrounded by small bones, dung, mud, dirt, and sometimes rocks. The female adults take turns caring for the unhatched eggs and young in a simular fashion to the parenting of female Maiasaura, and they become extremely aggresive towards other males that dont help care for the eggs. They send out the adult males to find food for themselves and the hatchlings in the often-expanding nest. After returning, the males feed the hatchlings regurgitated meat from a kill, gently making sure all the chicks are fed. Although rarer then their Nublarensis brothers, the Sornaensis raptors are the most likely to commit cannibalism on their young or other adults in time of extreme conditions, simular to Coelophysis Bauri, which has been documented in the fossil record to show examples of cannibalism, one adult fossil containing baby Coelophysis bones in it's stomach region. Velociraptors are by far the most vocal of Isla Sorna's population of dinosaurs, communicating with over 2,500 types of chirps, barks, screeches, squeals, screams, hisses, growls and 'roars'.
Additional Information: In truth, both species of Velociraptor on Isla Sorna; Sornaensis and Nublarensis, are actually enginereed from the genes of Deinonychus Antirrophus. Sornaensis raptors were the first subspecies enginereed and cloned by InGen, the scientists and staff noted that the intelligence of the Sornaensis raptors was disturbingly high; roughly as smart, if not smarter than modern primates and dolphins. Unlike their Nublarensis brothers, which tended to use brute force and sheer aggresion to take down their victims, the Sornaensis raptors are capable of planning out hunting plans and using their enviroment to their advantage in order to take down prey in carefully laid-out traps. It is commonly rumored and believed that the Sornaensis raptors were never on or put on display in Jurassic Park: Isla Nublar because of their ability to work together as a group in order to plan out and carry out hunting plans classified them by InGen as far too dangerous to guests and staff alike to be kept in captivity on Isla Nublar. Thus, the Nublarensis raptors, a slightly less intelligent subspecies than their Sornaensis cousins, were enginereed in thier place, and took the role for the raptors on Isla Nublar, while the "rejected" Sornaensis subspecies were just released onto Isla Sorna, there to be under intensive study.
Maximum Age: The oldest an adult Sornaensis Velociraptor has reached is 27.5 years.
