Compsognathus Longipes

Height: 2.5 feet
Weight: 14 pounds
Length: 4.8 feet
Male: Dark forest green mottled body, with different shades of light and dark green, as well as several shades of pale green or even yellow blended in. Different types of jet black striping, spotting and blotches mark the body everywhere except the skull region and the underbelly. Eye's are colored bright amber with circular black pupils. Underbelly is colored pale yellowish white. Claws are colored brownish black.
Young Male: Bright green mottling, often with shades of light and dark green, along with mixes of pale green mixed in. Ranging sizes of charcoal black striping, spotting and smallish blotches litter everywhere on the body except the pale white underbelly and the skull. Eye's are dull amber with roundish black pupils.
Female: Forest green mottled body, often with several shades of light and dark grayish green and brownish green blended in. Variety of jet black striping, spotting and blotches mark the body everywhere except the underbelly and the skull region. Eye's are colored bright amber with circular black pupils. Underbelly is colored pale yellowish white. Claws are colored brownish black, but are usually colored jet black.
Young Female: Dullish green mottling, with shades of darker grayish green and light brownish green mixed in. Set of varying charcoal black striping, spotting and smallish blotches litter the body everywhere except the pale white underbelly and the skull. Eye's are dull amber with roundish black pupils.

Preferred Habitat: Compsognathus can be found literally all over Isla Sorna, but they prefer to live in places like the Dense Jungle, the West Delta and Redwood Forests where there is plenty of cover and shade. When nightfall sets on the island, Compsognathus will normally and usually climb up a very tall tree where most predators cant reach them, and sleep there and wait for daylight to arrive.
Diet: Compsognathus are known to be active scavengers like African jackals and hyenas, roaming the forest floor and using their acute sense of smell to find a carcass to feed upon. Also like the African scavengers, they are well known hunters; using their venom simular to a heavy narcotic, in heavy doses, they can take down prey smaller or around the size of an adult Thescelosaurus. Suprisingly, Compsognathus are known to eat the dung and drink the urine of large herbivores like Muttaburrasaurus and Dicraeosaurus.
Family: Compsognathidae
Social Structure: Flocks or swarms of Compsognathus Longipes usually have around thirty individuals, but it has been seen that swarms of Compies can have from fourty to nearly eighty-five individuals. Groups of Compsognathus which have chicks stay in the area where the nest is, and the swarm stays there untill the chicks reach the size where they are strong enough to travel with the flock.
Description: Very small, bipedal carnivore; the smallest dinosaur on the Five Deaths, Isla Nublar, or any of the InGen Islands. Large, narrow skull filled with a set of tiny, needle-like teeth which have a venom simular in effect to a heavy narcotic. Long, thin tail carried high above the ground, and used for balance when running and used like a rudder for when swimming. Very large, circular eyes. Thin neck which can be bendy and squiggly in shape like a swan's neck. Long, two-fingered arms tipped with hooked-shaped, sharp claws designed to latch onto the sides of large animals. Thin hind-legs with three-toes on each foot.
Behavior: Abundant all over Isla Sorna, the Compsognathus species has spread across the island. These little dinosaurs can be found all over the island, from the Game Trail to the Dense Jungle to the Southern Highland to the Worker's Village. Because of their small size, they can easily hide in the foliage and avoid being detected by larger predators like Ornitholestes. Their camouflage-like coloration blends them easily into the surroundings of the Jungle or the Redwood Forests. These scavengers are very fast and intelligent, able to lure prey into traps like the young Cathy Bowman. To an unknowing human, a Compsognathus appears cute and harmless. But in fact, Compies are deadly dangerous, aggresive and they will not hesitate to bite rapidly at intruders and attackers which threaten themselves and their offspring. Compsognathus is easily the smallest dinosaur on Isla Sorna, or any of the islands. Being roughly a tad bit larger than the average chicken or a rooster, they can often be mistaken on glance for a Basilisk Lizard. In a simular fashion to a colony of fire ants, Compsognathus patroll the forest floor, killing and devouring anything that may stand in their way, from small island rodents to dinosaurs the size of Thescelosaurus in a fashion simular to the marine pirhana. Like other venomous dinosaurs of the island like Dilophosaurus "Venenifer" and Troodon Pectinodon, the species of Compsognathus produce a mild venom from their lower jaw simular in structure to that of the King cobra venom, although not as complex. When biting an animal, the Compies strong jaws latch onto the skin, and begin injecting the venom to the bloodstream. Although one dose of the venom doesnt do an adult human much harm other than maybe a mild headache and the pinch of the teeth biting their skin, in heavy doses the venom has a calming effect on the victim. One worker had described being bitten by a Compsognathus as harmless, no pain. All you wanted was to go to sleep. Multiple bites and injecting from the venom causes the victim to simply give up on fighting. As the venom spreads throught the body, the nerves and muscles start to ease up, and the victim starts to become very sleepy and tired. After enough venom has been injected to the victim, the Compsognathus begin eating the victim even when it's still alive. The adrenaline phermones being spread increases the agitation of the Compsognathus swarm, making them become violent and aggresive towards each other as they eat their helpless victim alive. Like packs of Velociraptors, flocks of Compsognathus communicate with each other using over nearly two thousand types of howls, whistles, chirps, screeches, snarls, squeaks and hisses. These can often share a resemblance to a Velociraptor, and they often cause confusion when the two species are in close vicinity.
Additional Information: For the Jurassic Park project, InGen had cloned over fifty Compsognathus specimens, and were kept mainly in the herbivore enclosures. The reason for this is because Isla Nublar housed very large herbivores like Brachiosaurus and Parasaurolophus. Big animals required a lot of vegitation to eat. Because the bacteria which broken down the herbivore dung went extinct, and the droppings were roughly the size of a soccer ball, there was a lot of excess waste. As it turns out, not only does Compsognathus eat carrion and meat, they will also eat the dung and drink the urine of the herbivores. Thus, many Compsognathus were cloned. As well as on Isla Nublar, Compsognathus, given the chance, will eat the dung and drink the urine of Isla Sorna's large herbivores like Brachiosaurus and Parasaurolophus Walkeri.
Maximum Age: The oldest an adult Compsognathus has reached is 28.7 years.
